Wither Reveiw

Wither Review

By Lauren DeStefano

Synopsis:

“What if you knew exactly when you would die?

Thanks to modern science, every human being has become a ticking genetic time bomb — males only live to age twenty-five, and females only live to age twenty. In this bleak landscape, young girls are kidnapped and forced into polygamous marriages to keep the population from dying out.

When sixteen-year-old Rhine Ellery is taken by the Gatherers to become a bride, she enters a world of wealth and privilege. Despite her husband Linden's genuine love for her, and a tenuous trust among her sister wives, Rhine has one purpose: to escape — to find her twin brother and go home.

But Rhine has more to contend with than losing her freedom. Linden's eccentric father is bent on finding an antidote to the genetic virus that is getting closer to taking his son, even if it means collecting corpses in order to test his experiments. With the help of Gabriel, a servant Rhine is growing dangerously attracted to, Rhine attempts to break free, in the limited time she has left."

I bought this book for my self as a treat, when on-line the previous day someone had recommend this book to me thought goodread.com and then I saw it while in town for only £2. I bought it and had it read in 3 days; it is not a long story but mostly because of the amazing storyline and cliffhangers and metaphors that left me hooked form the first page. I intend to but the follow-on to this book asap. It has even been included into my list of fav-ever books.

Sexual Content:
A downside to this book is sexual references but nothing is ever described, and only ever in the context of mentioning crumpled hair and blood and word like "come into your room for ... children?" altought the protagonist is still a virgin and she dose no more than kiss and fellow caractures, altough at one piont she asks about how it feels and it's often metioned about prosistues.

Gore:
This book contains very little if any gore. Blood and illness resurfacing in this book but it's done with little description of the blood.

Vilonce:
In the first chapter a group of girls have been kidnapped and very soon after the first description twelve of the girls are shoot, althought after no vilonce is mentioned this is rementioned a few times as one of the key caractures' sister where killed, also their is hints of abuse, but, not all of it is physical

On a whole this book constrates more on lose and devision then on sex (althought this is a key theme) and having gorey secenes.

My rating:10/10
